Andrea Pirlo has been voted as the best player in Serie A last season by his fellow professionals, which marks the third straight season he has won the award.

"It's always a great pleasure to win this award," Pirlo said during a gala evening in Milan. "It means that I've done well and that I am maintaining myself at the highest level. I'd like to thank all of my colleagues who have voted for me. I'm very honoured."

He joins Zlatan Ibrahimovic as the only other player to have won the award three times. 

Carlos Vela of Real Sociedad has been named La Liga Player of the Month for November.

Vela had four goals in November, including a hat-trick against Elche.

Vela has played well since the hiring of David Moyes.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Manuel Neuer have been shortlisted for Fifa’s Ballon d’Or award, it was announced on Monday.

Ronaldo is widely considered the favorite to win the award after helping lead Real Madrid to the Champions League title.

Neuer, who stood out during Germany’s run to the World Cup in Brazil, would become the second goalkeeper to win the award, following Lev Yashin in 1963, if he were to prevail.

The awards will be presented in Zurich on 12 January 2015.
